The purpose of the mine is to destroy heavily armored tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers by getting out of lateral projection. Mine RD-7 belongs to the type of engineering ammunition and its direct purpose is to hinder the movement of enemy tank convoys, out of order equipment or complete destruction. Mine operation is based on the principle of the so-called strike core. During its detonation, an arrow-shaped armor-bearing body is formed, which pierces the armor of the armored vehicle with kinetic energy. Mine can easily break through the side armor of tanks protected by first-generation dynamic protection complexes. In combat mode, mine detonation is carried out by the operator by means of heat and seismic sensors remotely or autonomously attached to the mine.
